Chongqing Hongyan Revolution History Cultural Center (Chongqing Hongyan Revolution History Museum) is a fully funded public institution at bureau level under the leadership of the Publicity Department of the CPC Chongqing Municipal Committee. It now administers Hongyan Revolutionary Memorial (established in 1958), Gele Mountain Revolutionary Memorial (Gele Mountain Revolutionary Martyrs’ Cemetery) (established in 1963), Exhibition Hall of the Site of Xinhua Daily Headquarters (established in 2023), and Chongqing Hongyan Executive Leadership Academy, etc.There are 54 historical sites such as the former site of the South Bureau of the CPC Central Committee & the Eighth Route Army Office in Chongqing, Zhou Gong Guan (Residence of Zhou Enlai), Guiyuan (Osmanthus Garden), Site of Xinhua Daily Headquarters, Zhazidong Prison, Baigongguan Prison, etc. (46 sites are free to the public). Some sites were selected as sites in Chongqing in 3 batches of major historical and culture sites protected at the national level, in one batch of state-level memorial facilities and sites of the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, and in one batch of state-protected martyr memorial facilities.The institution boasts 108,700 collections (pieces/sets), 8,842 movable cultural relics (pieces/sets), 4,090 precious movable cultural relics (pieces/sets), and 2 AAAA National Tourist attractions.The main responsibilities of the institution are to protect the historical and cultural sites of Hongyan revolution history, research and excavate the historical and cultural resources of the revolution, publicize and carry forward Hongyan spirit, and disseminate the knowledge of revolutionary history and science and culture. In January 2023, Chongqing Revolutionary Cultural Relics Protection Center was inaugurated at Chongqing Hongyan Revolutionary History Museum. In March 2024, the Ministry of Education and the National Cultural Heritage Administration approved the establishment of the National Revolutionary Cultural Relics Collaborative Research Center by Chongqing Hongyan Revolution History Cultural Center and Southwest University.

As a National Preservation of Historical Relics, Chongqing Hongyan Revolution History Cultural Center (Chongqing Hongyan Revolution History Museum) is the National Patriotism Education Demonstration Base, the first batch of National Anti-corruption Education Base, Education Base of Traditional Chinese United Front, the First National Research and Study Tourism Demonstration Base, National Middle and Primary School Research Study Practice Education Base, the first batch of practical teaching bases of "Ideological and Political Theory Courses" in China, the national education base for the next generation of Party history and national history, Party history and national history education base of China cares for the next generation, National Civilized Tourist Attraction, etc.
